What Men Want

Henson) is a sports agent successfully competing, but still being frozen out in the boys club that is her male dominated office. But following a hen night where she meets a psychic and takes a bump to the head she is able to hear the inner thoughts of men. Can she use this to her advantage and land the next NBA number one draft pick?

Based on the film What Women Want released in 2000 and starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt this is a gender flipped comedy that features some really funny moments. The best comedy comes from Taraji P. Henson’s sometimes frenetic performance and Tracy Morgan’s ridiculous Joe ‘Dolla’ Barry, the father of the basketball prodigy whose signature she is chasing. Anyone familiar with Morgan’s 30 Rock character will appreciate his bonkers delivery when Davis is reading his mind.

The film takes in Ali’s relationship with her father, her gay assistant, her prospective new boyfriend (who is a single dad), her 3 best friends, her co-workers and her work target. Which makes for quite a packed film, plenty of opportunity for humour and of course some moral messaging at the end.

If you are looking for a broad comedy with its fair share of slapstick you couldn’t go far wrong.
