Two teenage scientific geniuses in Brooklyn have been working on a time machine, but when they hit upon success they find themselves using it for a cause they never would have expected.
I found my way to this Netflix film via a list of “best films of 2019 so far” and whilst what I watched was certainly thought provoking and enjoyable it was not quite as good as last years similarly themed The Hate U Give. Debut feature film maker Stefon Bristol who co-wrote with Fredrica Bailey starts his film quite lightly with what looks like it will be a super fun take on time travel. It even includes a cameo from Michael J. Fox as the kids science teacher. But a police shooting and a death of a loved one refocuses the story on racial prejudice and the need for us to learn from our past to make a better future. If you go in cold that refocus can be a little bumpy, but once you adjust it’s an interesting concept.
There are good performances from a young cast including Eden Duncan-Smith as CJ, Dante Crichlow as Sebastian and Brian Bradley as CJ’s brother Calvin and the film wizzes along with a running time of only 84 minutes.
Worth checking out if you have a Netflix subscription.
