The Wolf Of Snow Hollow

In the small mountain town of Snow Hollow women are being brutally murdered under the light of a full moon. Officer John Marshall (Jim Cummings), a recovering alcoholic has the task of tracking down the man or monster responsible.

The wolf of snow hollow walks the line between many genres expertly. It’s a werewolf movie and has suitably grisly scenes. It’s also a film with humour borne out of the darkness that that entails. But mostly it’s about the evil and violence inside of men. Marshall has anger issues and struggles to keep them in check under the stresses that the case puts him under. This is not helped by the fact that his father, the Sheriff of the town played by Robert Forster in one of his final roles is not well. Or the fact that he has a seventeen year old daughter to worry about.

Jim Cummings is clearly a huge talent. This is the second feature film that he has written, directed and starred in. His performance manages to channel an awful lot of anger and pain whilst popping the occasional barb that will make you laugh. Whilst the imagery is pretty spectacular. The scenes of the mountain and forest from the air and the dissolves and cuts between scenes are great to watch.

The final revelation of who the culprit is is also fantastic. A classic montage of the penny dropping with an analysis of how the werewolf mythology came to be.
