Extra Ordinary

One hit wonder pop star Christian Winter (Will Forte) is preparing to sacrifice a virgin to the dark Lord in exchange for stardom. Can timid driving instructor Rose Dooley (Maeve Higgins) use her extraordinary (“it’s one word Rose”) talents to stop him?

Extra Ordinary is the sort of lovingly crafted comedy film that will slip through most people’s nets. I myself only became aware of it through a recommendation and I’m glad of it. Words like peculiar, quaint and nice would pepper any reviews and whilst it will not blow your mind it should certainly deliver lots of chuckles in its 94 minute run time.

As a young girl Rose was able to channel lost spirits through her supernatural expert father Vincent (Risteard Cooper). That is until an accident with a possessed pothole on a country road. We get to see Vincent’s lessons via some brilliant VHS recordings throughout the film. Whilst Rose is now a driving instructor she is drawn back into the super natural world when Martin Martin’s (Barry Ward) daughter is selected by Christian for sacrifice. Rose sets to work by using Martin Martin as her vessel to save the day.

Will Forte delivers another one of his crazy odd ball weirdo’s as a wig wearing washed up pop star and Barry Ward has a lot of fun being possessed by ghosts.

So sit back and enjoy this peculiar, quaint and nice supernatural comedy.
