Without Remorse

U.S. Navy Seal John Kelly (Michael B. Jordan) seeks revenge against those that killed his pregnant wife.

Without Remorse is based on a Tom Clancy novel published in 1993 and features a lead character that recurs throughout Clancy’s universe that features Jack Ryan, a character that has to date featured in five films played by four actors. The plot line has been significantly changed to fit this decades political thriller sensibilities and focus more heavily on action. And of course leaving the door open for sequels.

The result is an efficient film with solid performances, an entirely predictable plot and satisfactory action sequences.

Ultimately very little in the film stood out to me. The fact that the character is fuelled by the “fridging” of his wife seems outdated, but it is based on a novel from 1993. The casting of Jamie Bell and Guy Pearce seemed interesting but neither have lots to do. Jodie Turner-Smith stood out as the well spoken Seal team leader and Michael B. Jordan’s physique makes him look entirely ready for his directorial debut in Creed 3. Otherwise there is some stuff about Russia and World War 3.

Looking for an action flick where you can just switch off? This will fit the bill.
