Supernova

Sam (Colin Firth) and Tusker (Stanley Tucci) are travelling to visit friends in their old RV. Tusker has been diagnosed with dementia and this holiday represents the most precious thing that they have right now, time together.

Supernova is a small intimate film about a long term relationship that is facing its end due to a devastating illness. Sam and Tusker are both in their own way mourning the disappearance of who Tusker was.

Firth and Tucci both deliver delicate and loving performances. Their relationship is truly believable and feels completely lived in. The majority of the film is just them sharing time together, bickering believably and desperately trying to hold on to every last moment with each other. Many of which will bring tears to your eyes.

My only reservations in whole hearted recommendation is that as lovely and intimate as it is the story is predictable and the entire film is very low key.

A warm look at a loving relationship facing into death.
