The Forever Purge

As the annual Purge comes to an end a group of “true American patriots” decide it should not end until only true Americans are left in the country.

The fifth film in the Purge franchise turns its attention at racism in America. Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and Juan (Tenoch Huerta) have recently escaped Mexico to seek a new life in America. Juan has found work on the ranch of Dylan Tucker (Josh Lucas) and his pregnant wife Cassidy (Cassidy Freeman) and there is a slight hint that Dylan is not overly fond of the immigrants working for him. This of course will be tested when they are thrown together fighting for survival.

The fifth film in the franchise returns to the storyline from the original three films after the risible prequel, The First Purge. On the whole it is nothing particularly special but taken on its merits it is relatively enjoyable. Never interested in subtlety this film charges headfirst into racism and white supremacy in America and given current circumstances it almost feels like a cautionary tale of where the world could end up.

The final third transitions into a pretty tense race to safety and a western stand off that is equally heavy handed but none the less effective.

Fans of the series will be happy. Everyone else could probably take or leave it.
