The paw patrol head to Adventure City to stop the nefarious Mayor Humdinger from destroying the city through his ineptitude.
I have heard it be said that the likes of the He-Man and Transformers cartoons were cynical cash grabs to simply provide feature length advertisements for children’s toys. If that is true they have nothing on the might of Paw Patrol. At one point in the film one of the pups asks their master how he manages to pay for all their gadgets and without nary a pause for effect he pulls out a T-Shirt adorned with their logo and says “merchandise”. The thing is though, advertisement or not, I still loved He-Man and Transformers and still have an affection for them today. The same can be said for my children and all of those in the screening we went to in respect of the Paw Patrol. My ten year old may have mostly grown out of it but my seven year old brought a toy along to the screening. The other kids in the auditorium shouted along to the slogans and clearly had lots of fun as well.
The story is straightforward A to B stuff. The villain’s schemes are so frivolous it’s hard to remember them during the film let alone afterwards. If you are American you might recognise some big entertainment names as side characters such as Kim Kardashian, Tyler Perry and Jimmy Kimmel. Otherwise this is just a feature length episode which has a very loose story around Chase returning to the city he was abandoned in as a pup and the introduction of a new pup to the team.
The only reason to watch this is if you are taking children under the age of ten and if you are doing that I suspect you know what you are letting yourself in for. It does exactly what you would expect, just do not go past a toy store on your way home.
