Fall (2022)

One week shy of the anniversary of a tragic accident best friends Becky (Grace Caroline Currey) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner) decide to climb a 2,000 foot tall radio tower that is due for demolition. When they get trapped at the top they face a desperate struggle to summon help.

Fall is unashamedly a b-movie that follows the likes of Crawl, 47 Metres Down and The Shallows. Placing women in perilous and seemingly impossible survival situations where they desperately seek escape or to call for help.

The setup is quick and the backstory provided creates a logical reason for the characters to do an incredibly dangerous act. There is also a decent amount of drama between the main characters to create some pathos whilst they are stuck 2,000 feet above the ground. Whilst both actresses deliver perfectly pitched performances for the film.

The real villain of Fall are the fantastic visuals that give a true sense of just how high up and how hopeless the protagonists situation is. Anyone who has any semblance of a fear of heights might well struggle to get through this film. Especially on the big screen. But just like a rollercoaster it is the fear that creates the adrenaline rush.

There are a couple of odd choices near the end that I did not love but all in all I enjoyed my time trapped at the top of an impossibly tall radio tower.
