Murder Mystery 2

Nick and Audrey Spitz (Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) are now full time detectives after their exploits in the first Murder Mystery outing. However they are struggling to make ends meet. That’s why being invited to a luxury private island to their old friend The Maharajeh’s (Adeel Akhtar) wedding sounds like a good break to get away from it all. That is until he gets kidnapped of course and they are back on a case.

If you haven’t seen the original Murder Mystery you may be at a little bit of a loss here. I am not saying you will not be able to pick up the plot threads but Nick and Audrey Spitz along with returning characters The Maharajah, The Colonel (John Kani) and Inspector Delacroix (Dany Boon) are all characters thrown into the mix that you are expected to know. Because this sequel is almost slightly better for assuming you saw the original and just diving into the case.

This time there is a new group of suspects. The Maharajah’s new wife Claudette (Melanie Laurent), his sister Saira (Kuhoo Verma), the Countess Sekou (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Francisco (Enrique Arce). And a super detective in Miller (Mark Strong) who authored the book on how to be a detective; literally.

The plot line and events are as patently ridiculous as the first film and it is very, very silly. Think nappies on animals and bandages being placed on the outside of clothing. But the cast are all game with Aniston and Strong the most fun.

As with the first film you have to really go with it rather than think about it. If you want to watch a Netflix murder mystery movie that is smart check out Knives Out and Glass Onion. If you are in the mood for a goofy, silly farce then this is probably the right fit. Just keep that bar low.
