Migration

A family of Mallards persuade their overprotective father to migrate south to Jamaica. Along the way they will encounter some hijinks and turn rescuers to another flock of imperilled ducks.

Mack, the dad of the family (Kumail Nanjiani) is incredibly protective of his wife Pam (Elizabeth Banks) and children Gwen (Tresi Gazal) and Dax (Caspar Jennings). So much so that he tells them stories of fearsome predators beyond their pond who will kill them if they leave. However when some migrating ducks encourage his kids to head south they persuade him to make the trip along with their Uncle Dan (Danny DeVito).

When they arrive in New York they will find a nemesis in a chef that specialises in Duck a l’orange and plan to rescue his prospective dishes.

Migration’s storyline is incredibly formulaic and is surprisingly similar to the recent Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget. But with ducks rather than chickens and also weaker in every single aspect.

The animation is fine, the plot is entirely predictable, the humour is sorely lacking and at 83 minutes long it somehow seems to drag interminably.

Even the small cameos from Danny DeVito, Keegan-Michael Key and Awkwafina cannot save it from mediocrity and most parents will find themselves tuning out as their kids watch.

Thoroughly disappointing. Watch one or both of the Chicken Run films instead.
