Flight Risk

U.S. Marshall Madelyn Harris (Michelle Dockery) has to escort her prisoner turned witness, Winston (Topher Grace), from Alaska to Anchorage. Unfortunately their pilot ‘Dwayne’ (Mark Wahlberg) is an assassin working for the man Winston is supposed to testify against.

Flight Risk is a refreshingly simple and old fashioned thriller. At just 91 minutes long it spends all but a few of those minutes with our hero stuck in a plane she does not know how to fly trying to save her witness from a psychotic assassin.

There is mystery as she tries to ascertain the mole in the department. Action as she attempts to fend off her assailant without crashing the plane. Thrills as she attempts to learn to fly from a helpful pilot named Hasan (Monib Abhat) who talks to her over the airwaves. And some comedy as he flirts with her outrageously as he does it.

Jared Rosenberg’s script throws in the classic B-Movie character quirks you would expect to see and each of the actors give it their all. Dockery is engaging as the U.S. Marshall with a chequered past, Grace is the sort of self deprecating witness who has a heart of gold and wants his mum to be proud of him and Wahlberg is an absolute psycho.

The only issue is that it is still largely uneventful and un-engaging. All of the building blocks are there for a thrilling B-Movie but it all left me rather cold and bored.

Flight Risk is just a dull B-Movie.
