When Millie (Alison Brie) gets a job as a teacher in the countryside, her and her partner Tim (Dave Franco) take the plunge and leave the city behind for a new life. But will their strained relationship survive the big move?
Tim has recently suffered a traumatic experience when discovering the body of his dead father. The resulting strain has made him distance himself physically from Millie and the impending move to the countryside will likely finally kill his dream of becoming a rockstar. He feels trapped but unable to leave.
Millie on the other hand feels like she is becoming Tim’s mother. Needing to drive him everywhere as he does not have a license and actually be the adult in the relationship earning a living. But she cannot leave him.
Do they love each other or are they just co-dependent? The longer they stay together the harder it will be to separate.
A simple hike will change their lives forever though as they get caught in a storm and take shelter in a sunken chapel. That night will change them and their need to be together will take new heights.
Together is ultimately a body horror about co-dependency with a wicked dark streak. Alison Brie and Dave Franco, who are a real life couple play the drama, the horror and the humour perfectly. Whilst debut feature writer/director Michael Shanks does a great job at making a streamlined film with just the right balance of message, dark humour and body horror.
Together is a great watch although perhaps not date material.
