Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come

After surviving a lethal game of hide and seek, Grace (Samara Weaving) is forced into another round of deadly action. This time with her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) in tow.

Picking up immediately from the end of the original movie, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come gives viewers a brief recap of events as Grace is being revived in an ambulance journey. Waking up in hospital, she finds herself handcuffed to the bed with her estranged sister, asking her why she is still her emergency contact.

The story fleshes out that Faith felt abandoned by Grace, who left when she was eighteen, in order to try and make a life for them. They have not spoken since. They are forced together for the immediate future, however, when “The Lawyer” (Elijah Wood) gathers them up and explains that Grace’s precious win has triggered a bigger game. There were five families who ruled the world thanks to their bargain with the devil, and Grace has just killed one of them. She must now face the other four.

What follows is another insanely fun romp where Grace and Faith must do anything possible to survive until dawn. All whilst multiple generations of four families try to murder them in order to take the seat of power that leads the others.

Samara Weaving is just as brilliant as she was in the first film. Truly convincing as a survivor with some real smarts. Kathryn Newton slots in seamlessly as the little sister who feels wronged by her big sister.

And then there are the various hunters who all display varying levels of competence. The biggest name on the list is, of course, Sarah Michelle Gellar, famous for playing Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. Who does at one point wield a weapon that very much looks like a stake. Otherwise, Nestor Carbonell, of Lost fame, probably draws the most laughs as an inept sniper, and Shawn Hatosy is the most vindictive and hateful of them all.

Master body horror director David Cronenberg (The Fly, Existenz) also makes a cameo as the patriarch of the Devil worshipping households.

The person that appears to be having the most fun throughout, though, is Elijah Wood. A lawyer familiar with all of the minutiae of the deal these families have made with the devil, who delivers his messages with glee.

Directors Matt Bertinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have had an insanely productive time since the original Ready Or Not in 2019. Delivering Scream (2022), Scream VI, Abigail, and now this sequel. Landing a great blend of horror comedy along the way.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is lots of fun and a worthy sequel to their breakout hit.
