Returning to Zombieland ten years on from the original film we find some old friends who have found that just moving from place to place isn’t enough. Wichita (Emma Stone) has commitment issues, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) wants to find a home, Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) wants to find love and people her own age and Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) wants to be a lone wolf.
The impetus for the story is Little Rock’s exit when she finds a man her own age. The rest of the gang go in pursuit and along the way encounter new friends, some hang around for longer than others. All the new editions make an impact in a comedic way and some add to the story in a slight one. Madison (Zoey Deutch) is a lot of fun as an air head who could quite easily have been annoying, but stays just the right side of stupid. Nevada (Rosario Dawson) really should be in more films because she always adds some real attitude to every film she graces her presence with. Where as Albuquerque (Luke Wilson) and Flagstaff (Thomas Middleditch) on the other hand are just hilarious as replicas of Tallahassee and Columbus. The original cast are all perfectly at home delivering their characters as well although Breslin is sidelined for quite some time.
Of course it’s hard to capture the lightning in a bottle that was the original. When Zombieland came along it was a huge breath of fresh air. Now the sequel makes do with repeating the humour and abandon of the first film and settles for just being a lot of fun. Columbus’ rules and zombie kill of the week return and a recurring joke about Tallahassee’s vehicle is great.
Definitely a lot of fun for fans of the original even if it’s never quite as good.

I certainly agree with you review, although a few observations. After almost a decade of The Walking Dead the genre is starting to fall apart like one of those animated corpses. The banter and seeing the cast back together again is great, but the story runs out of steam well before the end. The ending of the original had tension and excitement. This time around you never feel these people are in any danger and the star appearance in the end credits is quite frankly stupid. However, and again as you say, Zoey Deutch (daughter of Lea Thompson) is fantastic and a film following her character would be very welcome. I guess if they ever make a third (in another 10 years perhaps) they will need an original hook to retain audience interest.
