Playmobil: The Movie

79CF21E9-199E-4594-AFC6-ED06FFB5311BBrother and sister Maria (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) get sucked into the magical world of Playmobil where they must save the people from an evil emperor (Adam Lambert).

Thank heavens for cinema kids club! My children wanted to watch Playmobil on its first spin at the cinema but I wasn’t taken much by the trailer or reviews when there were better options available at the time of release. Thankfully the early morning weekend screenings meant that we got to have a family cinema trip without the inflated cost that would have been even more jarring given the quality of film.

Playmobil is absolutely fine for children under ten but that is as far as it goes. There is not much of interest for adults watching and in general it feels like the run of the mill toy advert everyone feared The Lego Movie would be.

The most interesting moment for me was the opening minutes set in the real world where we get to see an actress I know mainly for horror films perform a really kitsch fun musical number.
