The Addams Family 2

This animated sequel follows the Addams Family on a road trip across America as Wednesday wonders whether she truly fits in with her family whilst some unscrupulous villains chase them.

Following my daughter’s absolute love of the 2019 The Addams Family this was always going to be an opening weekend cinema trip. And whilst she still adores Wednesday she only gave this film a solid eight out of ten. Just like the original though it is frustratingly uninspiring for adults in the cinema.

The cast on paper is fantastic again although Finn Wolfhard has had to drop out of voicing Pugsley thanks to his voice breaking. Wolfhard is replaced by Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton and Pugsley is mostly sidetracked in this feature. Chloe Grace Moretz, Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac remain inspired casting with little to stretch them though. None of the characters introduced in the original return and they really lean into the fact that Snoop Dog is voicing Cousin It.

The plot is another coming of age tale for Wednesday about fitting in much like the original. The fact that the kids had never left the house at the beginning of the first film and are now road tripping across America is not mentioned. The family visit the likes of Niagara Falls and Miami along the way with mildly amusing incidents occurring.

But all in all I doubt I will remember any plot points or jokes in a few hours let alone days. Kids will enjoy themselves and there is potential here but it is just so generic it is painful.
